Committee recommends Jordan Morales to Fire & Police Commission after extended questioning

The committee recommended the mayor’s nominee, Jordan Morales, to the Fire and Police Commission after a confirmation hearing in which members questioned him about recruitment, response times, use of force and his past air‑traffic controller incident. Leon Todd, executive director of the Fire and Police Commission, introduced Morales and described his professional background; Amber Danyas, the mayor’s council liaison, also introduced him to the committee.

“My name is Jordan Morales,” Morales said in opening remarks, then described service in the Air Force, a career move into construction management, and current roles including assistant superintendent at Mortenson Construction and work with the Air National Guard. Morales told the committee he intends to push for better communication between the Fire & Police Commission and Common Council and said he would weigh public input heavily on policing matters while remaining open to discussion and data.

Committee members pressed Morales on the Collins reporting requirements for stops and on an earlier incident when a firearm was left in a bathroom while he was an air‑traffic controller; Morales said he cooperated with investigators and accepted the consequences. After rounds of questioning from aldermen including Alders Burgos, Moore and Taylor, Alder Moore moved to recommend confirmation; the committee ordered the recommendation with no objections.
