Board approved the resolution related to the Hermiston Enterprise Zone after staff described the mechanism for a school support fee. Staff said the district can set the fee as low as 5% or as high as 15% and that the district currently sets it at 15% for collection, but that if the district retained the money ODE would subtract that amount from state school support — making it effectively a wash. Staff said they will provide projected revenue figures from nearby data centers.
The board moved, seconded and passed the resolution by voice vote. Members discussed wanting a seat at future conversations about tax exemptions and thanked staff for preparing the materials to file.
