Matthew Lee described the Picayune Rancheria item as an extension of a 1999 compact "to maintain the status quo" while litigation between the tribe and the state proceeds. "While it proceeds, I think all parties agree that it makes sense to maintain the status quo," Lee said, explaining that an extension preserves existing relations while the legal process runs.
