Commission approves increased budget and state funding for Army aviation support facility

The commission approved increasing funding for the Army aviation support facility from $34.5 million to $85.5 million and a funding shift from 100% federal funding to state-provided funds to complete construction as the Tennessee National Guard relocates aviation assets to Smyrna.

The State Building Commission approved a revision in project budget and funding for a new Army aviation support facility, increasing the capital budget from $34,500,000 to $85,500,000 and shifting project funding from fully federal to state-provided funds. Brig. Gen. Mark Tyndall, director of the Joint Staff for the Tennessee Military Department, said the change adds square footage to the previously phased project and supports relocation of National Guard aviation assets from Nashville Airport to the department’s training site in Smyrna.
