Exchange Clubs seek county support to display 1,776 flags for July 3–5 celebration

The Exchange Clubs of the Cedar Valley asked the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors for support for a large flag display in downtown Waterloo to mark the United States' 250th anniversary. The group plans to place 1,776 three‑by‑five flags in Veterans Hall Park and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial area July 3–5, coinciding with the city’s July 3 fireworks, and outlined sponsorship tiers ranging from $100 to $10,000.

The presenter said the Exchange Club Waterloo has secured a $25,000 grant but still expects to need roughly another $25,000 for flags, shipping and assembly; volunteers and veterans groups are expected to help with installation and a planned assembly day in late May or early June. “It’s not, it’s not a question of if or it's when it's gonna happen,” the presenter said, adding that the club will underwrite costs if sponsorships fall short. The board accepted the presentation; staff said they had the informational flyer and asked the presenter to email details to county staff for follow‑up.
