UGA student group urges expanded early voting at Tate Student Center

"My name is Eli King. I'm a rising junior at the University of Georgia," said Eli King during public comment, identifying himself as the president of a campus Young Democrats chapter and asking the board to "consider a motion to expand early voting at the Tate student center." King told the board that current on-campus early voting is limited to the final three days of the period and that students and UGA employees have limited time to vote under the present arrangement.

King urged the board to either extend the Tate Center site to the full three-week early-voting period, add an additional week, or add initial early days so students and university workers could coordinate voting with classes and jobs. He also offered the group's help recruiting volunteers to staff expanded days. Board members acknowledged receipt of emails from students and discussed outreach and the need for the university's buy-in; several members said UGA would be more responsive to students than to board staff alone.
