After discussion of legal and practical concerns, the board voted 6–0 on Feb. 9 to decline a proposed resolution under Texas Education Code §25.0823 that would have required a period for prayer and Bible or religious text reading on each campus.

At the Feb. 9 meeting, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Brant Perry presented a draft resolution related to Texas Education Code §25.0823 that would have required every campus to provide a period of prayer and reading from the Bible or another religious text. Dr. Perry explained the district already supports student and staff rights to pray in compliance with state and federal law and warned that the proposed resolution and related Senate Bill 11 could raise legal and practical issues.
