New Scotland preservation commission seeks code changes to curb “demolition by neglect”
The commission asked the new Town Code Enforcement Officer to meet with members to explore changes to the Town Building Code aimed at preventing “demolition by neglect,” and reported a Town Board member will review a neighboring municipality’s law for possible amendments.

Alan Kowlowitz, chair of the Joint Historic Preservation Commission, told members the town’s longtime inspector, Lance Moore, has retired and Bruce Scott is now the Town Code Enforcement Officer. Kowlowitz said he has contacted Scott to arrange a meeting with the Commission to discuss how the Town’s Building Code could address “demolition by neglect.”
