Sumner County committee votes to keep animal control with sheriff's office after debate
After public comment and a lengthy debate, the Health & Emergency Services Committee voted 4-2 to leave animal control under the Sheriff's Office. Commissioners who favored a study or transfer were outvoted; proponents of a new ad hoc committee pressed the board during public comment.

The Sumner County Health & Emergency Services Committee voted April 7 to keep animal control under the Sheriff's Office, defeating efforts to transfer oversight or create a new independent authority. The motion to retain animal control under the sheriff carried 4-2; Commissioners Mary Genung and Tim Jones registered the two opposing votes. The meeting was held at the Sumner County Administration Building and was chaired by Dr. Jamie Teachenor.
