Judiciary panel advances tightened DUI bill after changing interlock and video rules

Representative Johnson presented the subcommittee report for S52 and said the package keeps the bill's main objective "the need to strengthen our impaired driving laws," while narrowing several senate provisions and preserving procedural protections. Key changes included a new felony category for DUI causing moderate bodily injury, lowered maximum penalties in one subsection, expanded authority for blood testing when probable cause exists for drug impairment (drawing to be done at licensed medical facilities), and modernization of video-evidence rules for traffic stops.
