Council hears staff concerns over traffic control during Eagle Road work

Staff (S6) alerted the council to a safety concern after crews performed crack sealing on Eagle Road while working in the travel lane without cones or traffic control. S6 said crews had only signage at each end but no personnel to stop traffic and that a truck and two operators were performing tasks on the yellow line with traffic passing both directions.

S6 recommended the village consider hiring a temporary traffic-control company to send two people to manage lanes when work occurs on main roads. “We need to look into getting temporary, maybe hiring somebody…to control traffic,” S6 said, noting such services are not free but would protect workers. Council members asked staff to research vendors, costs and rental options and to return with recommendations for the next meeting.

Members framed the issue as a safety and procurement item: they supported seeking competitive bids or checking neighboring communities’ approaches before authorizing routine spending for traffic control when outside contractors are present.
