Work session outlines proposed zoning changes for manufactured homes and RV/camper rules

At a July 27 work session, County Manager Thomas Weaver summarized proposed revisions to the county’s zoning permitted uses intended to clarify where manufactured homes and mobile homes may be placed. Weaver said manufactured homes would be allowed in RR (with a 5‑acre minimum) and A‑1 agricultural property would allow mobile homes; campground/RV living rules would be tightened to prevent permanent standalone campsites in A‑1 zoning and to allow temporary placement (up to six months) with a building permit while constructing a residence.

Weaver said the county contracted the River Valley Regional Commission to assist in redrafting the zoning ordinance and that the board intends to follow the normal zoning procedure—hearing before Planning & Zoning, a recommendation, two readings, and final adoption. "The changes to the zoning permitted uses changing the permitted uses to allow manufactured homes in RR, residential, rural residential zoning, that will be a minimum of 5 acres," Weaver told commissioners. The board discussed limiting extended RV/camper living and requiring permits and site‑specific rules to prevent long‑term, unregulated occupancy on vacant lots.
