Commission adopts updated Community Partners program as "Buda Allies in Aging"

The Commission on Aging unanimously adopted revisions to its Community Partners program and approved the new name "Buda Allies in Aging." Chair Kauffman moved to adopt the changes and to include a list of grandfathered partners; the motion was seconded and carried without recorded opposition.

Staff explained that the draft included legacy language that created confusion over terms such as "community based organizations" versus "nonprofits." Commissioners recommended streamlining the language to use lower-case "community based groups" or to explicitly list nonprofit partners; staff will produce a clean, non-track-changes copy for distribution and will coordinate with the city clerk and legal for formal implementation.

The chair listed organizations to be grandfathered into the program, including Age of Central Texas, the Alzheimer's Association of Central Texas, Area Agency on Aging of Central Texas, Engage of Travis County, Onion Creek Senior Center and AARP Austin; the commission also noted the Methodist Church food pantry had applied and would be included where appropriate. With those conforming edits, the commission asked staff to update the corresponding application form and to move the document through legal review.
