Citrus County votes to sue Lecanto Sand over alleged unpermitted mining
The Citrus County commission voted 5-0 at a special August 2026 meeting to direct the county attorney to file for injunctive relief against Lecanto Sand LLC, citing notices of violation, recent aerial imagery and a community-shared video. The company says it has applied for a mining permit and asked for time to present evidence.

The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to direct County Attorney Denise A. Dimon Lynn to initiate litigation against Lecanto Sand LLC to enjoin continued activity the county says is unpermitted. County Attorney Dimon Lynn opened the special meeting by asking the board to “seek approval to initiate litigation against Lecanto Sand LLC.”
