FAA issues new pituitary-adenoma disposition tables with MRI and visual-field requirements

Aug 18, 2026

New FAA disposition tables split pituitary adenomas by size and treatment: microadenomas require endocrinology notes and pituitary MRI within 12 months; macroadenomas add eye exams and visual-field testing; post-surgical cases require six-month recovery and operative/pathology reports.

The full story

The FAA published new disposition guidance for pituitary adenomas that divides cases by tumor size and treatment history. Microadenomas (<1 cm) require a detailed endocrinology progress note and a pituitary MRI within the last 12 months; macroadenomas (≥1 cm) require the same plus an ophthalmic evaluation and visual-field testing to assess optic-chiasm impact. "For micro adenomas...a detailed clinical progress note, MRI pituitary and copies of any other testing. Defer and for consideration for special issuance," Dr. King explained.
