Van ISD board approves TASB Policy Update 126 with grievance exceptions

The Van ISD Board approved TASB Policy Manual Update 126 but excluded three local grievance policies to keep the district’s current complaint process in place.

Superintendent or a district presenter recommended adopting the manual update pages 10–30, citing recent legislative changes, while explicitly recommending the district not adopt DGBA Local, FNG Local and GF Local because the proposed timelines would allow grievances to be filed up to six months after an event — a change district leaders said would conflict with their long-standing process. The presenter recommended writing the retained language into the district’s innovation plan so the district could preserve the current level of review for student, parent, employee and public grievances.

Trustees moved and seconded the recommendation and the motion passed. Board minutes record the motion to accept the TASB updates with the named exceptions and approval of the updated policy manual language to be handled through the district innovation plan.

Board members asked no further questions before voting; the record shows the motion carried.
