Commissioners report on aging services, landfill screening, library data and conservation progress

Commissioner Houle and other commissioners used the updates portion of the meeting to summarize recent committee activity across several community programs.

Commissioner Houle noted the Central Minnesota Council on Aging contract with Catholic Charities delivered "20,000 some home delivered meals" last year and said the county's membership fee is a cost-effective return for those services. Solid Waste staff described a large mixed-material spoil pile they are screening to recover usable sand and rock for daily landfill cover and potential resale; the board said the new Solid Waste director brings extensive landfill experience. The Central Regional Library infographic showed usage metrics for Pine County and staff flagged variability across counties based on program emphasis.

Soil & Water committee updates included a 30,000-tree spring sale, progress toward forest-stewardship and groundwater goals (some targets at 32% or higher of multi-year goals, well sealing at about 95% of target), and upcoming data-center discussion. Lakes and Pines reported a fundraising gala netting roughly $28,500 and a new two-year grant award; the organization plans to apply for a one-year extension on an expiring grant to fully expend remaining funds.
