A supervisor told the Mills County Board that state legislators have proposed dismantling the EMA joint service board and shifting oversight to mayors and the sheriff, which supervisors said would undercut volunteer fire/rescue input; the board discussed asking local state lawmakers to oppose the plan.

During the board's reports, a supervisor warned that state legislators are considering eliminating the EMA joint service board and transferring responsibilities to mayors, with the sheriff overseeing services. "They want to do away with our board, turn it all over to the mayors," the supervisor said, adding that the change would remove a direct channel for volunteer fire and rescue services to convey operational needs to the EMA and 911 director.
