Members discussed two primary mattress-recycling pathways during the Aug. 6 meeting. Minutes state that Green Cycle operates an automated mattress-recycling system in La Crosse for large volumes at a rate of $425 per ton, while the La Crosse landfill accepts mattresses for $14 each. Committee members noted that BBC&M may already be transporting mattress loads to La Crosse and asked staff to confirm whether the county can coordinate recycling through existing haulers.
