SORM IT reports cloud migration progress, cautions on generative AI use

Director of Information Technology Ton Enan told the board that the project migrating servers to the Texas private cloud is making strong progress and is expected to close out in the coming months. IT reported ongoing automation of internal reporting and service desk metrics (335 tickets opened, 348 closed in the quarter), and noted the agency is expanding staff AI training modules while awaiting formal DIR guidance.

Lydia Scranton cautioned that SORM's claims and medical data present particular risks for generative models and that the agency must weigh predictive analytics benefits against privacy and control concerns. Directors noted that some Origami vendor AI modules (emailing and help center features) are available but remain disabled at SORM pending alignment with DIR and internal policy.

"We're looking forward to the guidance from DIR...but are learning what we can until that guidance is available," Ton Enan said, describing a cautious approach to rollout. Staff emphasized that predictive analytics for reconciliation and operational automation are under investigation, but that large language model usage will be limited until governance and data‑location issues are resolved.
