Cold Spring OKs water rate increase effective July 1 to cover system upgrades

The Cold Spring Board of Trustees voted May 20 to raise the village water flat and usage rates to cover system operating and maintenance costs tied to planned dam and system upgrades.

Mayor Foley offered the resolution and read the rate changes into the record, saying the new rates will take effect July 1. “Now therefore be it resolved that the water usage rate for all users is established at $3.68 per 1,000 gallons used,” the resolution text states. The board adopted the measure by roll call with three recorded yes votes and two absences.

Board members tied the increases to capital work on the dam and other upgrades to ensure the system is financially sustainable. Trustees confirmed the July 1 effective date after consultation with staff. The board also amended language in the whereas clauses to reflect meeting records rather than a public hearing where necessary.

The increase affects both in‑village and out‑of‑village flat rates (the village flat rate is set at $15.37 per assessed unit per quarter; out‑of‑village rates are set at one and one‑half times the in‑village rate, per village code language read into the record).
