Resident asks Collin County to back state effort to lower nighttime noise threshold

Richard Hill, a property owner in Collin County, urged the Commissioner’s Court to back Representative Leach’s effort to reduce allowable nighttime noise levels and asked a member to place the matter on a future agenda. "I have asked him to present a bill before the Texas State Legislature in 2027, amending title 9, chapter 42, to lower the decibel level between 55 and 60 decibels," Hill told the court. He said many cities in Collin County already have noise ordinances and that county residents deserve similar protection.

Hill said loud music from renters and property owners is causing sleep disruption and cited the statutory decibel threshold used in enforcement as part of his case. He asked the court to signal support to Representative Leach, noting that "Representative Leach advised support from Collin County commissioners would not only encourage him to present such a bill, but give more weight amongst his fellow state representatives given your support." The judge acknowledged Hill’s comments and said the court would move on to other business; Hill’s request was not scheduled for immediate action.
