Debate over tiny homes, multi‑unit proposals highlights water and density concerns in Quanah

A proposal to rezone parcels on the 400 block of East 10th Street for tiny homes and multiplex housing produced extended debate at the Planning and Zoning Committee meeting. The applicant described plans for small permanent houses and said the lots have active water and sewer lines; he argued the project would provide housing rather than short-term RV sites.

Neighbors strongly opposed increased density, saying the sewer system could not handle added load and expressing concerns about noise and quality-of-life impacts. Kenneth Arbert, a neighbor, told the board: "We would like to keep that. That's our only complaint ... We're not looking to increase 50 people up and down our streets all the time." Board members noted the municipal handbook currently reads "one dwelling per lot" and said the City Council must give clearer direction on tiny-home rules; an initial motion died for lack of a second and the item was forwarded as a council note for further guidance.
