Love's Travel Stops wins board recommendation to add four RV hookup spaces

The planning/permits body voted to recommend that city council approve Love's Travel Stops LLC's request to add four back‑in overnight RV parking spaces with water, electric and Wi‑Fi hookups at the store site.

Frank Ille, representing Love's, described the company’s RV‑hookup program and said the sites are intended for short‑term stays by travelers rather than long‑term residence. “The average stay at these locations is one night,” Ille said, adding the company’s operating rules bar RVs older than 10 years, require wheels to remain visible, and prohibit skirting or outdoor furniture.

Board members asked technical and safety questions, including whether installing hookups would require digging into pavement, where an RV dump would discharge (Ille said it typically ties to the store sewage system), and compliance with spacing and fire safety standards. Ille said hookups follow a 25‑foot centerline spacing consistent with NFPA guidance and that the company typically limits stays by policy (the internal cap has been 28 days, though average stays are far shorter).

A motion to recommend approval was made by Holly and seconded by Bobby Spangler; the board voted by voice and recorded no opposition. The recommendation will now go to city council for final approval; construction and any sewer/dump station installation would be coordinated during permitting and could be subject to additional approvals or technical constraints.
