Barnstable to replace Town Hall elevator; greeter desks and accommodations planned

Tammy Cunningham, deputy director of Human Resources and Barnstable's Americans with Disabilities Act coordinator, said the Town Hall elevator replacement begins Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, and the work is expected to continue through December, with the timeline subject to change.

"Beginning Tuesday, September 8th, 2026, we'll start the replacement of the Town Hall elevator," Cunningham said. She warned the elevator will be completely out of service during construction but said the town is setting up accommodations to maintain access to services: a staffed greeter office on the ground floor near parking management, reopening and staffing the first-floor greeter space, and greeters who will assist visitors in reaching departments.

Cunningham said Town Hall departments will remain open during normal business hours, though visitors may see temporary detours or adjustments to service windows. She added that Town Council meetings will continue in person with Zoom available for public comment and hearings, while other boards, committees and commissions will meet remotely via Zoom until the elevator work is complete unless they already meet elsewhere.
