Staff recommends passing 3% card fee to customers and buying RMS/CAD to enable shared dispatch

Staff recommended the council adopt two operational changes to improve fiscal and service efficiency: begin passing a citywide 3% credit-card usage fee to customers and purchase a records-management/CAD system to enable a shared dispatch with the county.

"Staff recommends that that we pass on the 3% credit card usage fee citywide," the presenter said, noting the city currently absorbs approximately $80,000 annually for card processing. On shared dispatch, staff said procuring the same RMS/CAD system used by the sheriff's office would allow interoperability: "This is the same system that the sheriff's office has. This will allow us to work together and create that shared dispatch center...It could save both entities money and will definitely save time and more likely save lives." The workshop did not adopt either change; staff framed them as recommendations for council consideration in later action items.
