Residents press county on accessibility compliance and question Hampton annexation, Equinex work

Public commenters raised two dominant themes at the Aug. 17 meeting. Heidi Long urged the board not to accept federal and state grant funds without a countywide accessibility self-evaluation and transition plan, warning that the county risks audit findings, grant disqualification and clawbacks if mandatory civil-rights assurances and Section 504 obligations are not documented. She said facilities advertised as accessible have primary access routes and parking that do not meet federal standards.

Several residents also addressed the board about the pending AX-26-03 annexation and the nearby Equinex data-center. Robin Calhoun and other residents said they found evidence of water-line work and a water tank delivery and described traffic disruptions; Christian Snyder and Connie Snow alleged lack of environmental and gravesite surveys and urged the county to investigate city approvals and potential legal compliance failures. Residents thanked the board for voting to object to the annexation and asked the county to follow up with legal and permitting checks.
