Police department to try FirstNet tiering to reduce vehicle data costs
The police department told the board that AT&T's FirstNet tiered pricing could cut unused-device data costs without increasing the maximum monthly charge; staff will enter the program and record it as a matter of record.

Chief Gerber told the board that AT&T's FirstNet program can tier data usage on in-car devices to reduce recurring costs for devices that see little or no data use. He said the city currently pays $30 per month for each device and that the FirstNet tiers could lower costs for inactive devices to $10–$18 depending on usage while guaranteeing the city would not pay more than $30 if a device exceeds the tier limit.
