Community groups get council approval to mark International Overdose Awareness Day in downtown Decatur
On a request from Brianna's Hope, the council authorized ribbons in town and supported a downtown event on Aug. 31 to mark International Overdose Awareness Day, while staff directed organizers to complete standard event permit procedures.

Trisha Gonzalez, speaking on behalf of Brianna's Hope, asked the City Council for permission to host International Overdose Awareness Day in downtown Decatur on Aug. 31 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and to hang purple ribbons around town from Aug. 29 through Sept. 5 as a visual reminder.
