At a work session the Seaside board discussed updating its 2024–25 board goals and agreed to emphasize board development, long-term campus and capital planning, and increased community outreach. One board member said the board should "do board training" regularly and suggested the portrait-of-a-graduate exercise to clarify what graduates should know and be able to do.
Members discussed treating some goals as committee-specific initiatives to be developed in advisory meetings and brought to the full board for approval. The facilitator summarized what she heard as three emerging board goals: a comprehensive plan for district property and capital improvements (including the performing arts center), continuing board development including portrait-of-a-graduate work, and community outreach with at least one on-campus event this year. "We won't be adopting any goals tonight. That'll happen at the next regular meeting," the group agreed.
