EDC hears permit growth and multiple local project updates

Mr. Swanky briefed the Haslet Community and Economic Development Corporation on local development activity, saying, "in July there were 122 active permits and there's 18 new ones that are under review at this time." He walked the board through photos and site-plan notes for Freeman Toyota, Cross City North Church, and the CDDI property at 405 Westport, and described utility and landscaping work and generator installations at several commercial sites.

Swanky described a planned intersection configuration at Harmon Road and Blue Mound Road that the Ironwood Company will construct in concrete and transitional areas; he said some adjacent properties are not owned by the developer, which limits immediate construction to areas within the developer's ownership. He also noted two upcoming zoning cases north of Westport Parkway seeking to change AF (airport facilities) zoning to industrial to expand allowable industrial uses, and he reported preliminary conversations about a 30-acre Landmark property potentially being annexed and the possibility of a pre-annexation agreement for industrial uses.

Board members asked for additional detail about the Landmark parcel's elevation (Swanky said there is about a 50-foot drop from one point to another and that a floodplain traverses the northwest corner) and about which parcels Hillwood owns. The update closed with thanks and a personnel note that Morris is retiring and Ben Rodriguez will join upcoming meetings as a replacement.
