Volunteers propose Park Committee to coordinate Rocky Ridge park upkeep

Volunteer park organizers laid out a series of maintenance problems and proposed a volunteer Park Committee to improve coordination and accountability.

Wendy Allred presented photographs and identified multiple issues at the town park—including dead and drought-stressed shade trees, trunks damaged by mowers and weed trimmers, accumulated weeds in landscaped areas, dirt accumulation in parking lots, and playground equipment needing periodic cleaning. She said roughly "approximately eleven youth volunteers have been assisting with park improvement projects through the Quality Craft program," and emphasized volunteers intended to continue work while developing a management plan.

Wendy and Lane Allred recommended protective measures for vulnerable trees (mulch rings and trunk wraps) and suggested clearer communication channels so volunteers know whom to contact. The Council agreed Benjamin should continue as Park Manager and supported developing clearer maintenance checklists and contractor expectations; members also recommended discussing any formal changes with Benjamin upon his return. Brandon is preparing task checklists organized into daily, weekly and monthly duties to improve oversight and accountability.

No formal staffing or budget changes were approved; Council members said they supported volunteer efforts and agreed to meet with Benjamin and the contractor to define roles and expectations before changing reporting structures.
