New Rochelle Public Library wins Yiddish Book Center grant for 'Between 2 Worlds' program

Lisa Itzkowitz of the New Rochelle Public Library announced that the library was among roughly 40 libraries nationwide selected to receive the Yiddish Book Center’s public library grant for a program titled "Between 2 Worlds: Exploring Jewish Culture and Religion through Yiddish Literature." "New Rochelle was among, 40 libraries nationwide to receive the grant," Itzkowitz said, and she described materials, funding and training included in the award.

Itzkowitz detailed a slate of free programs running through December: a virtual tour kickoff of the Yiddish Book Center that was recorded; a film screening of the documentary The Stettlers on May 28 in the Ossie Davis Theater; a book-discussion series starting June 8 at 6:15 p.m. (participants will receive free copies of the book courtesy of the Yiddish Book Center); and a live klezmer concert on July 21 as part of the library's international music and dance programming. She encouraged broad participation and said recordings and links would be shared via the library's e-blast.

The library said the grant also includes funds for ancillary Yiddish-culture programming and trainings for staff and volunteers; Brian Zamek, an adult librarian who wrote the grant, will lead book discussions. All programs are free and open to the public. Itzkowitz closed by inviting attendees to spread the word to neighbors and family.
