Council weighs $120,000 TIP Strategies proposal to develop economic development plan for Alpine

Staff presented a proposal from TIP Strategies — a national economic development consulting firm — and council debated whether the firm’s experience would translate to Alpine’s remote context and small population. Council Member Stevens said he "has a bit of a jaundice view about what value we'll get out of it, but we're talking $120,000," and asked staff to press TIP for examples of successful work in communities with a remote profile similar to Alpine. Other council members emphasized the need for an implementation‑focused plan, referenced prior local studies as a foundation and noted TIP's record of pursuing grant funding and capital projects for clients. Several council members supported budgeting a partial amount now and revisiting scope after direct discussions with the consultant.
