Public commenter urges board to replace CTE coordinator, cites program failures

Jason Walter, a member of the community who addressed the board during public comment, sharply criticized the district's Career and Technical Education (CTE) program and the staff overseeing it, saying the program is not providing expected pathways, competitions and oversight.

Walter said he has raised concerns previously about ventilation and equipment and described a recent meeting that left him unconvinced the coordinator understands permissible uses of Perkins grant funds or how to set up CTE pathways. He told trustees the district had ‘‘allowed a CTE coordinator [who] have no clue, can't complete programs, no oversight of the teachers under that program’’ and that students have missed competitions as a result.

Walter pressed the board for immediate action, urging trustees to remove the coordinator: "They should be terminated tonight and go look for another one because I can read and do better just reading in one night than what she's figured out in four years." The comment accused the coordinator of throwing away funding opportunities and failing to maintain programs that enable student competition and skill-building.

The board did not respond with a detailed rebuttal on the record during the public-comment period. There was no formal action recorded in open session immediately following Walter's remarks to indicate the board had initiated a personnel review or removal; later agenda items moved forward under routine consent and action items.
