Council hears update on stop‑sign camera program; enforcement thresholds to be negotiated

University Park—At the July 20 Council meeting, Councilmember Mary Gathercole told colleagues the Town’s stop‑sign camera program contract with Axon/Ovio is nearing implementation and said "CM Gathercole, Captain Graddy, and Administrator Cornwell will meet with Obvio on Thursday, July 23, to discuss enforcement thresholds and up-front costs associated with the required warning-ticket period." The Council did not vote on thresholds at the meeting; Gathercole said she hopes to bring recommended thresholds to the Council after the Police, Traffic & Public Safety Committee meets Aug. 5.

Gathercole described the next steps as vendor-level negotiations on enforcement thresholds and initial warning-ticket costs. The mayor recommended scheduling work sessions in late summer to review revenue projections tied to the new stop‑sign camera program ahead of the FY28 budget process; no special session was scheduled at the meeting. Council members and staff indicated further cost and enforcement details will be provided to inform any formal Council action.
