Dr. Washington reviewed several academic pilots and early results, emphasizing initiatives intended to boost achievement and postsecondary outcomes. She said a sixth-grade hybrid math intervention — blending small-group instruction with individualized web-based practice — has shown promising early gains at five or six pilot schools. "So far we've seen a lot of success with the scholars so far so early in the school year," Dr. Washington said.
