Assessor: designated-forest land participants will be audited beginning next year

Emily, representing the assessor's office, told the board that the county will begin auditing taxpayers who participate in the designated forest land program. "The answer is I recently became aware of the fact that we are supposed to be auditing the taxpayers that are participating in the program," she said, and added the audits will be rolled out so that landowners are notified in advance and have time to replant or otherwise come into compliance by the 2027 audit cycle.
