Board requires post-construction acoustic testing, applicants propose panels and siting to reduce noise

Noise mitigation was a central technical issue during the Select Shepherds site-plan hearing. Attorney Sheridan Brown said the building placement maximized setbacks and used existing vegetation as a buffer per acoustician Mr. Bodwell’s recommendations, and that outdoor runs would include top and bottom screens and side skirts covered with mass-loaded vinyl.

The board specified an acoustics condition requiring post-construction test results from the acoustician measured at the property line. Members discussed additional measures that could be applied later, such as an earthen berm if post-construction testing showed a need for further mitigation. Chair Jacques and Vice-Chair Dzubak confirmed openings on the runs would face northwest toward forested areas to reduce sound propagation.

The board will require the acoustician’s report after construction and before final site-plan sign-off. If tests fail to meet the agreed limits, the board discussed applying additional mitigation measures as conditions of approval.
