Council approves alcohol sales permit for New Port Richey fall concerts

The New Port Richey City Council approved an alcoholic beverage special-event permit for Newport Richey Main Street Incorporated to sell beer, seltzers and water as a fundraiser during the city's fall concert series in Sims Park.

City staff presented the application and said that, after reviewing three city-sponsored concerts in which NPR Main Street handled beverage sales this year, staff reported no issues and supported the current request. "Based on this experience, the staff supports the current request and respectfully presents this item for your consideration and direction," the presenter said. Council members asked whether Parks & Rec and Public Works would continue to run the concerts while Main Street handled beverage sales; staff confirmed that was the arrangement and that nonprofit proceeds would benefit the Main Street organization.

Council approved the special-event permit on a voice vote; staff also noted that nonalcoholic options would be offered at the event at residents' request and that the application fee for the ABSEP had been submitted. One council member raised questions about golf-cart parking and the mix of alcohol service and golf carts at park events; staff said they had designated serving areas and reserved parking and would share a site map with council.
