Devine ISD trustees approve student code, CTE staffing, new DHS course and multiple policy items

The Devine Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously July 20 to approve a package of personnel and policy measures affecting the 2026–27 school year.

Trustees approved an additional full‑time Career and Technical Education (CTE) teaching position to support the PCT program and adopted a new innovative course at Devine High School titled "Student to Industry Connection." The board also adopted the district's 2026–2027 Student Code of Conduct and approved a revised substitute pay schedule. Each motion passed 5–0, with trustees Carl Brown, Alixana Buvinghausen, Chris Davis, Candace Esparza and Keri James voting in favor; Nancy Pepper and Britny Stricker were absent.

Board members approved the district's Professional Development Plan and scheduled an EISO/team‑building training for February 21, 2027. The actions were presented as part of the agenda's administrative and action items; Superintendent Dr. Todd Grandjean and HR Director Dawn Schneider were listed on the administrative reports accompanying the items.

The consent agenda — which included minutes from the June 15, 2026 meeting, purchase of property/casualty/liability and workers’ compensation insurance, adoption of the Atascosa County Alternative Education Program Memorandum of Understanding, and a DEF donation — was also approved 5–0 earlier in the meeting.
