Area Agency on Aging urges expanded transportation after survey shows needs spike
Kenneth Shearer, Area Agency on Aging Director, told the Otero County commissioners that a Region 6 survey of residents 60+ identified reliable transportation as the top need and that reported medical transportation needs rose from 35% to 85%, largely for trips to Pueblo and Colorado Springs.

Kenneth Shearer, Area Agency on Aging director for Region 6, presented the agency’s four-year plan for 2027–2031 and said surveys of residents aged 60 and older show transportation as the most pressing shortfall. "The biggest need/improvement is reliable transportation," Shearer told the board, noting medical trips to Pueblo and Colorado Springs drive much of the demand.
