Smith County road crew reports blade failures, skid-steer damage and staffing changes

Feb 18, 2025

Road Supervisor Mitch Fritz and Assistant Road Supervisor Travis Story reported recent equipment failures — including blades and a shattered skid-steer door — plus staffing updates: an employee on medical half days and John Kautz attending CDL training in Beloit.

The full story

Road Supervisor Mitch Fritz told the Smith County commissioners on Feb. 18 that the department experienced multiple equipment issues last week: "a couple blades went down," one blade was taken to Concordia for repairs, and problems with inline filters were reported. Fritz said John Deere inspected skid-steer tracks and that the tracks need replacement; he added the skid-steer door shattered that morning and will be replaced.
