Planning Board seeks workshop with Selectmen and Conservation on Master Plan implementation

The Atkinson Planning Board on May 20 said the town’s updated Master Plan requires follow-up meetings with other boards and agencies to move action items into implementation. "The Master Plan has been updated, but there are a few items that need to be discussed, including Conservation, Board of Selectmen activities, Planning Board Goal #6, and MS4," Chair Sue Killam said.

Members agreed an inter-board workshop would help clarify responsibilities. Alternate Karen McFadden suggested inviting the Conservation Commission because conservation topics make up a large portion of the plan; Selectman Paul Wainwright said he would contact Conservation Commission Chair Bill Steele to arrange a meeting. Chair Killam said she preferred a workshop format rather than addressing the items only at a Selectmen meeting.

The board discussed inviting additional stakeholders — the Fire Chief for hydrant and emergency coordination, and the Big Island Pond Corporation for lake-management concerns — to ensure environmental and public-safety considerations are factored into implementation planning. No firm date was set; Chair Killam said she would discuss timing with Selectmen she is meeting in June.
