Kent County committee advances draft Materials Management Plan toward August vote

The Kent County Materials Management Planning Committee reviewed a draft of the county Materials Management Plan and directed staff to circulate a red-line version for comment, with all comments due August 7. County staff said the committee should aim to vote on the plan at an expanded meeting on August 20; that committee vote would precede a 30-day public comment period in September and subsequent Board of Public Works and Board of Commissioners reviews and votes through early December.

Committee members outlined the approval pathway the plan will follow: an August 20 committee vote (if the committee is prepared), a 30-day public comment period in September, a Board of Public Works public hearing and vote in October–November, and a final Board of Commissioners vote targeted for December 3. The committee also requested legal review at the August 20 meeting and asked that a representative from Corporate Counsel or the law firm Varnum be present for that session.
