Board to finalize superintendent evaluation process in September; external feedback option discussed

Derek presented a proposed timeline and framework for the superintendent evaluation based on the OSBA/KOSA model and asked the board to consider prioritizing a few standards so the superintendent could focus on a limited set of measurable goals.

“We're at the pre‑evaluation stage,” Derek said. He outlined an approach that includes one to three superintendent goals tied to board priorities, interim check‑ins in November and January, an optional targeted external feedback survey in January and a consolidated evaluation in February.

Derek reviewed the eight standards in the model (visionary leadership; ethics/professional norms; inclusive district culture; instructional leadership; communications/community relations; organizational management; financial management; policy and governance). Board members agreed to review the materials and suggest edits to descriptors if they prefer clarified or reduced language.

Board members asked whether raw external feedback would be shared directly with the superintendent; Derek said the targeted feedback had been used last year to inform the board and that the raw survey responses could be used internally to surface blind spots before the board finalizes a single summary evaluation.
