Resident urges Genesee County to revive a disability-pride recognition
A Burton resident and other public commenters asked commissioners to bring back and strengthen a disability-pride resolution after it failed by one vote, saying recognition would reinforce civil-rights protections and belonging for people with disabilities and families affected by the Flint water crisis.

Brandy Purle, a Burton resident, asked the Genesee County Board of Commissioners to resurrect and strengthen a disability-pride recognition after a previous resolution “fell one vote short.” She told commissioners that her sons are autistic and that a formal local recognition would convey dignity and welcome beyond the protections of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
