Board told county adopted 2024 building codes; effective date set for Sept. 1

A county building official reported that the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved moving Cochise County to the 2024 building codes and that the new codes will take effect on September 1. The official said staff are updating website materials and handouts to prepare for the transition and clarified that permits submitted before Sept. 1 will be reviewed under the current codes. "The Board of Supervisors officially took action on July 14th and they it was unanimous to move us forward to the 24 eye codes. And so the effective date will be September 1st of this year," the building official said.

The official noted that most nearby jurisdictions are aligning with the same code cycle — citing Huachuca City, Sierra Vista and Benson — and mentioned that Douglas is on an older code and Willcox has already moved to an intermediate code. Staff suggested they may assist jurisdictions that are behind in their code updates and that the advisory board should watch for items that may need later amendment.
