Commission approves 5,000‑sq‑ft accessory barn on Oak Ridge Road under new accessory‑structure rules

Staff described a conditional‑use permit request for an accessory barn at 1602 Oak Ridge Road with an approximate 5,000‑sq‑ft footprint. The applicant said the current canvas structure is temporary and that the proposed barn would store hay, tractors and provide a small shop and horse stalls for four horses. Staff noted recent county code changes eliminated prior numeric limits on accessory buildings and established a 10% lot coverage threshold up to 14,000 sq ft; the applicant’s total accessory building footprint was reported at about 6,804 sq ft and the new barn would bring the total to just under 7,000 sq ft — well below the 14,000‑sq‑ft cap.

Neighbors who live adjacent to the property—several of whom spoke in favor—said the applicants had engaged the neighborhood and had been good neighbors. The planning commission unanimously approved the CUP per the staff report findings and conditions.

"It'll be for hay storage. It'll be for my tractor equipment. I'll have a small shop in there," the applicant said while describing agricultural uses for the new barn.
