Committee recommends split award: Go Big for park buildings, Amos for remaining work

A committee of the Board of Works reviewed four contractor bids for repairs to city buildings and voted to present a split recommendation to the Board of Works: award Go Big the park-related buildings (including Bob Rogers and Pavilion 2) and award Amos the remainder of the project.

The presenter summarized the bids, saying the four submissions came from Amos, Go Big, Pinnacle and SPG and that Go Big was the lowest bidder on six of nine park buildings. The presenter said Amos’ packet included explicit notes about approximately $250,000 in ancillary work they believed insurance should cover and that Amos had time-stamped photos documenting damage prior to later storms — a factor staff cited in favor of awarding Amos significant portions of the remaining scope.

Why it matters: the split award is intended to give the city a single contractor for the park pavilions while retaining Amos’ claimed advantage in pursuing insurance supplements on other buildings. The committee instructed staff to prepare a recommendation packet for the Board of Works and to pursue placement on the board’s next agenda, possibly via an emergency meeting.

"I feel like Amos by far gives us our best chance," the Staff member said, citing Amos’s prior presence on site and documentation. The committee motion to present the recommendation to the Board of Works was made and seconded; the transcript records members voicing support but does not include a named roll-call tally.

Next steps: staff will finalize the recommendation packet and get the item on the Board of Works agenda. The Board of Works will make the final award decision after its formal meeting.
